Marcia Spencer - Designing Woman
By allisonbeale, Thursday, January 14, 2010“I don't regret leaving the corporate world to start my own business,” says Marcia, “because I get to spend more time with my children, make my own hours and be my own boss.” Her love of fashion and design began long before her advertising career – she was a sales assistant at The News & Observer – so you could say deciding to leave it behind after the birth of her second child was her mind and heart coming full circle. Without looking back, she launched Small Beans, a children’s clothing line she designs and sews single-handedly. Her unique styles are sold locally and online. “I am a mother first and a designer, too, so my jobs are never done. I work longer hours and have more responsibilities than when I worked in a corporate setting, but it is all worth it when you are working for yourself. The rewards are plenty.”
