Amanda Lamb

Television Reporter/Author, Cary, NC

My family: Husband, Grif; two daughters, Mallory (8), Chloe (5); two dogs and a fish

My work: I cover the crime beat for WRAL.  I've been a professional television journalist for 18 years.  In August 2007 Globe Pequot published my first book under the skirt! imprint, Smotherhood: Wickedly Funny Confessions from the Early Years. It's a collection of edgy, funny essays about parenting in the 21st century.  My second book, Deadly Dose, a true crime about a Raleigh murder case, is being published this month by the Berkley Group.

Words I live by: “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me.’” Erma Bombeck

Can't live without: My Blackberry.  I'm officially addicted.

My passion: Is writing.  I've been doing it since I was a little girl.  I wrote books and made construction paper covers that I illustrated and stapled together.  As a teenager I filled notebooks with my writing.  Now, as a forty-something journalist and mother of two, I've finally realized my dream of writing and publishing books.

I am guilty of: Piling too much on my plate and then trying to figure out how it got so full.

One thing I never want to do again: Is ride the Coyote Canyon waterslide at the Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos.  Too dark, too big of a drop, and too hard on the stomach!

My last big purchase: Was a screened-in porch.  I’m one of those crazy people who love being outside in the North Carolina heat.  Bring on the humidity!

Theme song: Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield

If I could do it all over again: I would worry less and laugh more.

My best friend says I am: Very, very organized, full of self-deprecating humor, and a lot more laid-back after a martini or two.

My first job was: Filing checks at a bank one summer.  Can you say BORING?  I couldn't stand the high stress of being a teller.  Clearly, I was not cut out for banking.

I’d most like to read: Hillary Clinton’s diary - especially her take on the White House years.

What keeps me awake at night: Is thinking about everything I have committed to and trying to figure out how to cram it in my already crowded life.

If I could be totally wild: I would do it somewhere nobody knew me – far away from Raleigh!

If I could eat it every day:  Hands down, cheese.  I love practically every kind of cheese.  I could live on it.  Oh, wait, I pretty much do!

Something people don't know about me:  I love to clean and organize closets and drawers.  I find it very relaxing and cathartic to get rid of stuff that's cluttering my space.
