When Eleanor moved to New York in 1980, she intended to become a Broadway star. “To make it on Broadway, you have to be the tallest, the most beautiful, the best singer, the best dancer. To make it in comedy, you just have to be funny.”
Luckily, Eleanor is about as funny as they come. She started doing stand-up in the Big Apple, and eventually moved to Hollywood, where she worked as a writer on a Bob Newhart sitcom.
A Broughton High School graduate, she has since returned to Raleigh in search of new material. She’s currently working with other local comedians to develop a sketch show that pokes fun at the City of Oaks. “The show is edgy, sophisticated and topical. The people I’m working with here are as good as anyone I worked with in Hollywood. They’re here and they’re living the Raleigh dream.”
