Melissa Price | Democratic Diva

Melissa Price developed a sense of justice at a young age.  When she was a student at Clayton High School, she noticed that well-qualified teachers were moving to Wake County schools for better pay.  “I thought, ‘Wake County gets better teachers than I do.  That’s not fair.’”  She shared her frustration with her mom, Joan, who surprised Melissa by running for the school board.  “She had no political background.  She ran as a mom, and got elected as a mom.  I was very proud of her.”  Watching her mom work to make changes to the Johnston County school system moved Melissa to get involved in politics herself.  She’s now vice president of the Young Democrats of North Carolina, and has worked hard in the organization’s initiatives for in-person voting registration and raising awareness about the Sudanese crisis.  “I do all of this because I realize we need a change and a better future… That’s what life’s all about.”
